Egypt Demonstrates Strong Performance in the Nature Index 2026, Ranking Second in Africa and 45th Globally
Egypt demonstrated strong performance in the Nature Index 2026, ranking 45th globally and second in Africa in research output, with a total of 379 research papers published between April 2025 and March 2026.
Egypt ranked first in Africa in Applied Sciences, placing 37th globally, followed by Biological Sciences at 48th, Health Sciences at 52nd, and Chemistry at 54th globally.
This performance reflects the strength of international collaboration among Egyptian researchers. China, the United States, the United Kingdom, Japan, and Saudi Arabia were the leading countries collaborating with Egypt. At the institutional level, Ain Shams University ranked first among Egyptian universities and institutions, followed by Cairo University and Assiut University, then Tanta, Helwan, and Mansoura Universities.
Research fields such as Chemical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Urban and Regional Planning, Clinical Sciences, Electronics, Sensors, and Digital Components emerged among Egypt’s most productive research topics, reflecting the diversity and advancement of the Egyptian research ecosystem.
