In a new research achievement reflecting Ain Shams University's growing prominence on the local and international scientific research map, the university has topped the list of Egyptian universities and institutions in the Nature Index 2026, a key international indicator for monitoring high-quality research output. This coincides with the advancement of Egypt's research presence, placing it 45th globally and second in Africa in terms of research output, with a total of 379 research papers published between April 2025 and March 2026.

This achievement comes under the auspices of Prof. Mohamed Diaa Zain El Abedeen, President of Ain Shams University, and Prof. Amany Osama Kamel, Vice President for Graduate Studies and Research, within the framework of the university's strategy aimed at supporting high-impact scientific research, promoting international publication, and expanding research collaboration networks with prestigious institutions and universities worldwide.

The results revealed the important role of international cooperation in enhancing Egyptian research impact. China, the United States, the United Kingdom, Japan, and Saudi Arabia were among the leading countries collaborating with Egyptian researchers on the research projects tracked by the index.

This confirms that openness to international scientific institutions and the building of cross-border research networks and partnerships have become key drivers for improving the quality of Egyptian scientific output and enhancing its global competitiveness.

Egypt Leads Africa in Applied Sciences

At the research level, Egypt has made remarkable progress, leading the African continent in applied sciences and ranking 37th globally. It also ranked 48th globally in biological sciences, 52nd in health sciences, and 54th in chemistry.

These results reveal a growing diversity in the Egyptian scientific research landscape and a widening range of fields in which Egyptian academic and research institutions are achieving international recognition.

Among the most productive research topics in Egypt are chemical engineering, electrical engineering, urban and regional planning, clinical sciences, electronics, sensors, and digital components—fields directly linked to the technological and developmental transformations the world is witnessing.
