As part of Ain Shams University's strategy to expand international cooperation and strengthen its academic partnerships with educational and cultural institutions and building on the longstanding collaboration between the University's Faculty of Arts and the Republic of Ghana, the Faculty hosted a high-level delegation from the Embassy of the Republic of Ghana in the Arab Republic of Egypt, headed by H.E. Justice Solomon Korantwi-Barimah, Ambassador of the Republic of Ghana to Egypt. The visit aimed to strengthen academic and cultural cooperation and explore the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to expand future areas of partnership.

The meeting was held under the patronage of Prof. Mohamed Diaa Zain El-Abedeen, President of Ain Shams University, and Prof. Hanan Kamel Metwally, Dean of the Faculty of Arts.

The Ghanaian diplomatic delegation included AlHaji Mohammed Ibn Abass, Deputy Head of Mission; Kevin Sellassie Nyasembi, Cultural Attaché; Samuel Sellassie Sevor, Minister and Head of Chancery; Peter Allswell, Embassy Counsellor; and Mary Magdy Moris.

At the beginning of the meeting, Prof. Hanan Kamel Metwally welcomed the Ambassador of the Republic of Ghana and the accompanying delegation, emphasizing that the Faculty of Arts views international academic cooperation as a cornerstone of educational and research development. She noted that the faculty is committed to building effective partnerships with universities and cultural institutions worldwide, enhancing educational quality, promoting the exchange of expertise and knowledge, and strengthening Ain Shams University's international standing.

She added that the faculty possesses well-established academic expertise in the humanities, languages, and teaching Arabic to non-native speakers, enabling it to attract students from various nationalities, including Ghana. She expressed her hope for expanding future cooperation in ways that serve the interests of both sides.

During the visit, the Ambassador and his delegation met with Ghanaian students enrolled in the Faculty's Arabic Language Program for Non-Native Speakers. They listened to the students' academic experiences, while the students expressed their satisfaction with the program, praising its distinguished academic standards, the care and support they receive, the warm welcome extended to them, and the faculty’s commitment to addressing any challenges they face, creating a supportive and stimulating learning environment.

For his part, Ambassador Justice Solomon Korantwi-Barimah expressed his pleasure at visiting the Faculty of Arts at Ain Shams University, commending the University's distinguished academic reputation and long-standing educational legacy. He reaffirmed the Embassy of Ghana's commitment to strengthening cooperation with the University and building upon the success of existing collaborative programs, particularly in teaching Arabic, to open broader opportunities for academic, cultural, and research cooperation while reinforcing the historic ties between Egypt and Ghana.

The meeting also included discussions on enhancing academic and cultural cooperation between the Faculty of Arts and educational institutions in Ghana, building on the success of the Arabic Language Program for Non-Native Speakers, and exploring the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding. The proposed agreement would expand collaboration in education and scientific research, facilitate the exchange of students, researchers, and expertise, and support the organization of joint conferences, seminars, training programs, and cultural activities.

The discussions further highlighted opportunities to leverage the faculty’s academic strengths in the humanities and linguistic studies while enhancing communication between educational institutions in both countries, promoting cultural dialogue, and building stronger bridges of knowledge and mutual understanding between the Egyptian and Ghanaian peoples.

The visit concluded with a commemorative photograph featuring Professor Hanan Kamel Metwally, the Ambassador of the Republic of Ghana, members of the diplomatic delegation, and the Ghanaian students enrolled in the Arabic Language Program for Non-Native Speakers, in front of the Faculty of Arts' official emblem. The photo symbolized the depth of the academic and cultural relations between the two sides and reflected the success of their ongoing cooperation and shared aspirations for further expansion in the future.
