Ain Shams University Launches a Transformative Initiative in Future Skills with Seven Specialized "STEP UP" Tracks
In a landmark step reflecting the Egyptian State’s unwavering commitment to human development and investment in human capital, Ain Shams University, under the leadership of Prof. Mohamed Diaa Zain El-Abedeen, President of the University, and the supervision of Prof. Ghada Farouk, Vice President for Community Service and Environmental Development, is launching its ambitious "STEP UP" initiative for Complementary Learning Pathways and Micro-Credentials. The launch will take place on Wednesday, 8 July 2026, at 10:00 a.m. at the Innovation and Entrepreneurship Center (iHub).
The initiative represents a significant milestone in higher education, translating the directives of Egypt's political leadership to modernize the education system and align academic outcomes with the evolving needs of the labor market, in line with the National Strategy for Higher Education and Scientific Research. More than a training program, STEP UP is an innovative educational model designed to bridge the gap between university learning and the rapidly changing demands of today's workforce.
The project offers seven specialized complementary learning pathways in high-demand future-oriented fields at both the national and international levels:
1-Financial Technology (FinTech)
2-Smart Technologies (SmartTech), including Artificial Intelligence, Cybersecurity, and Cloud Computing
3-Geospatial Intelligence for Sustainable Development (GeoSUSTAIN)
4-Digital Media Content Creation
5-English for Teaching Science and Mathematics, preparing educators for international and language schools
6-Global Educators Preparation, based on globally recognized standards such as the International Baccalaureate (IB)
7-Legal Innovation, covering Digital Legal Research and Artificial Intelligence Applications in Judicial Practice
A key feature of the initiative is the provision of academically and professionally accredited Micro-Credentials. These stackable, standalone learning units offer students, graduates, and professionals exceptional flexibility to build personalized learning pathways aligned with their career aspirations while strengthening their competitiveness in local, regional, and international labor markets.
The University affirmed that STEP UP represents a strategic initiative to support digital transformation, foster a knowledge- and innovation-driven economy, and prepare highly qualified professionals capable of leading sustainable development in Egypt's New Republic while keeping pace with the rapid advancements of the Fourth and Fifth Industrial Revolutions.
