July 5… A specialized workshop on linking bioinformatics with laboratory applications in SARS-CoV-2 research at the TASH Center, Faculty of Medicine, Ain Shams University

In support of scientific research and the integration of modern biotechnology with laboratory applications, The Translational & Applied Science Hub (TASH) at the Faculty of Medicine, Ain Shams University, is organizing a specialized training workshop titled:

“From Sequencing to the Bench: A Workshop on Bioinformatics and Molecular Laboratories Bridging the Gap between SARS-CoV-2 Bioinformatics and Gene Expression”

The workshop targets faculty staff, teaching assistants, and researchers from various faculties of the University, with particular focus on specialists in microbiology, virology, and immunology. It also welcomes researchers interested in bioinformatics and molecular biology applications across different disciplines.

The workshop will be held over three days, from July 5 to July 7, at the TASH Center, Faculty of Medicine. It includes four main training modules and six hands-on practical sessions, offering integrated training experience that combines computational analysis of biological data with modern laboratory applications. The program covers everything from exploring and analyzing genomic and transcriptomic databases to performing RT-qPCR techniques and gene expression analysis.

The scientific program is structured around three main themes: fundamentals of bioinformatics and SARS-CoV-2 genome analysis including mutations and variants; analysis of GEO datasets using global databases and bioinformatics tools; and hands-on training in RNA extraction, primer design, real-time RT-qPCR, and relative quantification analysis.

The workshop aims to enable participants to efficiently use global biological databases, analyze clinically relevant mutations, perform laboratory workflow steps, and design integrated research projects that combine computational discovery with experimental validation. This contributes to enhancing research quality and strengthening research capacity in medical and life sciences.

At the end of the program, participants will receive a certified completion certificate, along with a post-assessment test. They will also be invited to join the workshop alumni network and benefit from the center’s electronic learning resources.
