The Faculty of Environmental Studies and Research at Ain Shams University is the first of its kind in the Middle East
The Republican Decree was issued to establish the Institute of Environmental Studies and Research as the first institute of its kind in the Middle East in 1982 AD.
The Ain Shams University Board, in its session on 30/10/1978, approved the establishment of the institute, and assigned Prof. Muhammad Mahmoud Hosni, Professor of Environment at the Faculty of Agriculture, Ain Shams University, to follow up the construction process, and many steps were passed, including obtaining the approval of the Supreme Council of Universities on 25/04/1981.
This was followed by the issuance of the Ministerial Decree establishing the Institute of Environmental Studies and Research No. (1041) on 12/06/1981, until the Presidential Decree No. (87) of 1982 was issued to establish the Institute, and by the decision of the President of Ain Shams University No. (22) dated 7/25/1983 Prof. Mohamed Mahmoud Hosni was appointed Dean of the Institute of Environmental Studies and Research.
In 2021, the Prime Minister issued Resolution No. (1431) to convert the name of the Institute of Environmental Studies and Research into the Faculty of Graduate Studies and Environmental Research.
The Faculty of Graduate Studies and Environmental Research at Ain Shams University is an educational faculty accredited by the National Authority for Education Quality Assurance and Accreditation.
The Faculty seeks to study and discuss environmental problems of a local, regional and global nature through scientific and applied studies and research, preparing specialized and qualified research and professional cadres to meet the need for environmental work and community service, work on the development and sustainability of resources in accordance with international standards, and build partnerships with various institutions concerned with scientific research.
