About the center:

The Psychological Counseling Center at the Faculty of Education - Ain Shams University was established by a decision of the Supreme Council of Universities on June 5, 1991, in response to the growing need to provide psychological and educational support and counseling services to students, faculty members, and the local community, as well as to promote scientific research in the fields of mental health and psychological counseling.

Center objectives:

* Prepare counseling, preventive and curative programs.

* Provide psychological counseling to community members with their different groups.

* Organize training programs and courses for psychologists and educators who work in the field of caring for children and youth, whether ordinary or those with special needs.

* Conducting studies and research in various fields of psychological counseling.

* Preparing the necessary tools and measures for the psychological counseling process.

* Issuing a scientific journal specialized in psychological counseling.

* Holding scientific conferences and seminars and exchanging information and experiences with Egyptian Arab and foreign research centers.

Training courses and diplomas 2019/2020

The Speech Therapy Training Diploma (180 hours – 4 diplomas) includes comprehensive study of a wide range of topics such as an introduction to speech and language disorders, stages of language development, language delay, speech and voice disorders, and phonetics. It also covers conditions like cerebral palsy, hearing impairment, articulation disorders, and speech therapy approaches for children with autism and intellectual disabilities. Additional focus is given to cleft palate, stuttering, ADHD, aphasia, cluttering, sign language, communication methods, and behavior modification for children. Language assessment is taught through models such as Dr. Abu Haseeba’s approach, along with training on how to develop therapeutic plans. The program also includes oral and written assessments, case study applications, sensory integration, rehabilitation for children with cochlear implants, and language activities in the Montessori program. Language assessment using the “REEL Scale” by Dr. Dalia Mostafa is also included, in addition to communication programs tailored for children with autism and genetic syndromes.

The Speech Therapy Training Diploma (300 hours – 3 diplomas) offers deeper and more detailed training in the same foundational areas, including speech and language disorders, language development stages, language delays, and a variety of speech, voice, and communication disorders. It provides in-depth instruction on dealing with cerebral palsy, hearing impairments, articulation disorders, and working with children who have autism or intellectual disabilities. The diploma also includes specialized training in cleft palate cases, stuttering, ADHD, aphasia, and sign language. It features behavior modification strategies, therapeutic planning, language assessments (including those developed by Dr. Abu Haseeba), and practical application of both oral and written assessments. Additional areas include case study development, sensory integration, cochlear implant rehabilitation, Montessori-based language activities, the REEL Scale (as presented by Dr. Dalia Mostafa), and advanced communication programs for children with developmental and genetic conditions.

The Speech Therapy Training Diploma (360 hours – 2 diplomas) represents the most extensive version of the program, encompassing all previously mentioned areas with additional depth in applied techniques and clinical implementation. It provides advanced knowledge and practical skills necessary to assess and treat a wide array of communication disorders. Topics include full coverage of speech and language pathology, language development, speech delay, speech and voice disorders, phonetics, cerebral palsy, hearing loss, and articulation disorders. It also addresses therapeutic approaches for autism, intellectual disabilities, cleft palate, stuttering, ADHD, aphasia, and cluttering. Students learn communication methods, sign language, behavioral modification, and language testing according to Dr. Abu Haseeba’s approach. The program includes therapy planning, oral and written evaluations, hands-on case studies, sensory integration, cochlear implant rehabilitation, Montessori language activities, REEL Scale assessments by Dr. Dalia Mostafa, and specialized communication programs for children with autism and various syndromes.

The Behavior Modification Training Diploma (180 hours – 4 diplomas) provides a thorough foundation in behavioral theories, diagnostic standards (DSM), the core concepts and goals of behavior modification, and behavioral assessment techniques. It also includes applied behavior analysis (ABA), methods of behavioral and cognitive-behavioral therapy, and the development of customized behavior modification plans. Practical application of behavioral techniques is emphasized throughout the program, equipping participants with hands-on skills for real-world implementation.

Child and Adolescent Drawing Analysis, Sexual Issues in Children and Adolescents, and Skills Development are integral components of training programs designed to enhance psychological and developmental understanding.

The Family and Marital Counseling Training Diploma (2 diplomas) includes topics such as the concept of family counseling, the roles of the psychological counselor (particularly in family contexts), the counselor’s role during sessions, and various marital and family problems. It explores theories of marital choice, the application of Rational Emotive Therapy and Existential Therapy in family and marital counseling, family dynamics, male and female psychology, psychological tests used by family/marital counselors, psychodrama for resolving family issues, essential skills for family trainers, and practical training using art therapy techniques.

The Learning Disabilities Training Diploma (2 diplomas) provides an introduction to learning difficulties, differential diagnosis, and intelligence measurement, along with diagnostic tools for learning difficulties. It includes strategies for developing cognitive skills (attention, perception, memory, thinking, concept formation, problem-solving), pre-academic and academic skills (reading, writing, arithmetic), and addresses specific challenges in learning English, math, science, and social studies. It also trains participants in using modern technological aids for learners with difficulties and in preparing individualized educational plans.

The Special Education Training Diploma (1 diploma) includes an overview of special education and addresses hearing, intellectual, and visual impairments, autism, learning difficulties, speech therapy, and gifted education. It also introduces various syndromes, sensory integration, and skills development.

The Special Education Training Course (4 courses) covers the same foundational topics as the diploma: special education, hearing impairment, intellectual disabilities, visual impairment, autism, learning difficulties, speech therapy, giftedness, various syndromes, sensory integration, and skill development.

The Sensory Integration Training Course (1 course) focuses on the definition and importance of sensory integration, key theories, sensory processing disorders, the relationship between sensory integration, hyperactivity, autism, and learning difficulties, sensory system dysfunction, evaluation programs, therapeutic plans, and conducting sensory integration sessions.

The Logotherapy (Meaning-Centered Therapy) Training Course (1 course) introduces the philosophy of logotherapy (existential philosophy and concentration camp experiences), key foundations (triad of meaning, value triad, tragic triad), mental illness and existential void, concepts like the meaning of love and transcendence, logotherapeutic techniques, and practical exercises in meaning therapy.

The Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) Training Course (2 courses) covers the role of cognitive factors in the development of psychological disorders, the application of CBT for various conditions, foundational principles, the therapeutic process, CBT techniques, application procedures, cognitive case formulation according to the CBT model, and clinical case studies.

The Sign Language Training Course (1 course) includes an introduction to special education, hearing impairment (definition, causes, types), communication methods for individuals with hearing loss, and sign language (letters, numbers, colors, transportation, document-related signs, and descriptive signs).

The Stanford-Binet Intelligence Scale (5th Edition) Application and Interpretation Training Course (2 courses) provides an introduction to intelligence testing, hands-on practice, score interpretation, and psychological report writing.

The Psychoanalysis and Projective Tests Training Course (1 course) covers the historical development and theoretical evolution of psychoanalysis, including dynamic, economic, and topographical viewpoints. It explores core principles, psychological determinism (instincts, structure, psychic apparatus), personality, Freudian slips, symptoms, fixation, and psychopathology from a psychoanalytic perspective. It also covers child psychoanalysis, psychoanalytic therapy, and includes five major case studies: Dora, Little Hans, Rat Man, Schreber, and the Wolf Man.

The Psychological Counseling Training Course (1 course) includes core concepts in psychological counseling, foundational principles, the responsibilities of counselors, common errors in sessions, counseling process steps and models, counselor-client relationships across schools of thought, major counseling theories, diagnostic tools used in counseling, types and levels of psychological diagnosis, clinical case study methods, traits and roles of the counseling team, counseling domains (family/marital, educational, vocational), human personality development psychology, mental health dynamics, categories of psychological disorders, and an introduction to psychological testing and scales.

The Psychological and Educational Rehabilitation Training Course for Special Education Workers (1 course) provides a comprehensive overview of special education, including hearing, intellectual, and visual impairments, autism, learning difficulties, speech therapy, giftedness, syndromes, sensory integration, speech development, and skills enhancement.
