The Oral & Maxillofacial Pathology Department, located on the fourth floor, is specialized in the diagnosis, study, and management of diseases affecting the oral cavity, jaws, face, and related structures through microscopic examination of biopsies, surgical specimens, and clinical-pathologic correlations.
Core Scope
● Examines neoplastic conditions (benign and malignant tumors such as squamous cell carcinoma and odontogenic tumors), non-neoplastic diseases (inflammatory, infectious, autoimmune disorders like lichen planus and pemphigus), and systemic manifestations (e.g., oral lesions in HIV, blood disorders).
● Handles diverse pathologies including salivary gland disorders, fibro-osseous lesions, cysts, sinonasal issues, and metastatic cancers.
Diagnostic Services
● Performs histopathology, cytopathology, and immunofluorescence on biopsies and resections; provides frozen sections and molecular studies for precise classification and prognostication.
● Collaborates with oral surgery, oncology, ENT, and radiology for multidisciplinary patient care and research on disease etiology, pathogenesis, and epidemiology.
