Community Observatory at Ain Shams University – A Scientific Step Toward Monitoring Social Issues and Shaping Future Solutions

Under the patronage of Prof. Mohamed Diaa Zain El Abedeen, President of Ain Shams University, and Prof. Ghada Farouk, Vice President for Community Service and Environmental Development.

In line with the societal role of Ain Shams University and its commitment to actively contributing to the monitoring and analysis of social issues and phenomena, as well as providing scientific insights that support sustainable development efforts, the Community Observatory at Ain Shams University emerges as a specialized scientific and research platform operating under the umbrella of the Community Service and Environmental Development Sector.

The Observatory focuses on studying and scientifically analyzing societal issues within the Egyptian environment, enabling a deeper understanding of social transformations and the challenges facing society. It also contributes to providing scientific insights that support decision-makers and assist in formulating policies and initiatives that serve the community.

The Observatory also benefits from the diverse scientific expertise available at Ain Shams University, in addition to advanced research tools and comprehensive university, local, and international databases. This strengthens its ability to provide reliable scientific analyses that support development efforts and respond to the evolving needs of society.

As part of its research role in monitoring contemporary social phenomena, the Community Observatory is currently studying the impact of the increasing use of electronic games on the behavior of university students. This phenomenon has witnessed significant growth among youth and may be associated with behavioral, social, or academic changes.

In this context, the Observatory invites university students to participate in the attached survey by answering its questions. Their participation will help provide accurate scientific data that enables researchers to gain a deeper understanding of this phenomenon.

This participation reflects the spirit of cooperation between students and the University in order to reach scientific insights that contribute to proposing practical solutions and positive alternatives that promote responsible use of technology and encourage positive behaviors among university youth—fulfilling the ultimate goal: that the University monitors society’s issues, and society benefits from science and knowledge.
