Under the patronage of Prof. Mohamed Diaa Zain El Abedeen, President of Ain Shams University; Prof. Ghada Farouk, Vice President for Community Service and Environmental Development; and Prof. Karim El Batouty, Dean of the Faculty of Dentistry, and under the supervision of Prof. Walaa Hamed, Vice Dean for Community Service and Environmental Development, the Faculty of Dentistry, Ain Shams University, organized a medical convoy dedicated to supporting and rehabilitating children with disabilities in cooperation with Kayan Association on November 9, 2025.
The medical team participating in the convoy was led by Dr. Nada Ismail, Resident in Pediatric Dentistry and Public Health; Dr. Cecile Youssef, Resident at the Pediatric Dentistry and Public Health Department; and Dr. Eman Attia, Master’s student in Public Oral Health.
The team began with health education sessions, explaining proper toothbrushing techniques to children and their caregivers using educational models demonstrating correct oral hygiene practices. Important nutritional advice was also provided to help maintain oral and dental health.
The program included dental examinations for 28 children to assess their oral health status. Fluoride varnish was applied as an effective preventive measure against dental caries, particularly due to the high prevalence observed among the children. The team also distributed toothbrushes and toothpaste to each child, along with a structured daily toothbrushing schedule to reinforce healthy habits.
To facilitate better understanding among children and their families, age-appropriate educational materials with colorful illustrations were distributed. These included various scenarios explaining how to manage tooth loss and highlighting the importance of proper nutrition for oral health.
This convoy reflects the Faculty of Dentistry’s ongoing commitment to community engagement and its dedication to supporting diverse groups by providing comprehensive oral healthcare for children with special needs.
