Faculty of Dentistry, Ain Shams University Organizes Medical Convoy to Nawaet El Khair Orphanage in Cairo

Under the patronage of Prof. Mohamed Diaa Zain El Abedeen, President of Ain Shams University; Prof. Ghada Farouk, Vice President for Community Service and Environmental Development; and Prof. Karim El Batouty, Dean of the Faculty of Dentistry, and under the supervision of Prof. Walaa Hamed, Vice Dean for Community Service and Environmental Development, the Faculty of Dentistry organized an awareness and medical convoy to Nawaet El Khair Orphanage in Cairo.

As part of the Faculty’s leading community role and its commitment to community service and environmental development, the Faculty organized a medical and awareness convoy on Saturday, November 8, 2025, targeting children at Nawaet El Khair Orphanage in Cairo.

The convoy focused on children aged 12 to 17 years and included simplified educational lectures and practical sessions to promote the importance of maintaining proper oral hygiene. Comprehensive dental examinations were also conducted to identify children at high risk of dental caries.

As an effective preventive measure, fluoride varnish was applied to strengthen teeth and reduce the risk of future decay. In addition, Signal-branded toothbrushes and toothpaste were distributed to all participating children to encourage them to maintain healthy oral hygiene practices.

The convoy was led by a medical team consisting of a resident doctor in community dentistry and two postgraduate Master’s students specializing in public oral health from the Pediatric Dentistry Department.

This initiative reflects the Faculty’s mission to integrate academic education with community service, promote social responsibility among faculty members and students, and enhance oral health awareness among orphaned children by providing them with the scientific knowledge and tools necessary to maintain good oral health.
