The Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery (OMFS) Department located on the fourth floor is a surgical specialty unit that manages diseases, injuries, and defects of the mouth, jaws, face, and neck.
Main scope of work
● Diagnosis and surgical treatment of facial trauma, fractures, and soft‑tissue injuries of the face and jaws.
● Management of impacted teeth, complex extractions, and dentoalveolar surgery (including pre‑prosthetic surgery and dental implants).
● Treatment of benign and malignant tumors and cysts of the jaws, oral cancer, and salivary gland diseases.
●Reconstructive and corrective surgery Orthognathic (corrective jaw) surgery for skeletal discrepancies affecting function and facial aesthetics.
● Cleft lip and palate, craniofacial deformities, and other congenital anomalies.
● Reconstructive surgery after trauma or tumor resection, often using microvascular free flaps and advanced 3‑D imaging.
● Pain, function, and aesthetics of Temporomandibular joint (TMJ) disorders: non‑surgical management and joint surgery when needed.
● Management of facial pain, infections, and pathology of the oral mucosa (ulcers, lesions, etc.).
● Facial aesthetic procedures (e.g., rhinoplasty, facelifts, eyelid surgery) when integrated into the department’s scope.
Role in the hospital and education
● Provides inpatient, outpatient, and emergency coverage, especially for facial trauma and urgent oral conditions.
● Often hosts residency programs, teaching dental and medical students and training future OMFS specialists.
● Works closely with ENT, plastic surgery, oncology, orthodontics, and restorative dentistry as a bridge between medicine and dentistry.
