The Faculty of Graduate Studies and Environmental Research at Ain Shams University announced the date for the completion of the training of the third batch of the training program for the qualification of climate ambassadors at the end of next week. , under the auspices of the Minister of Environment, Dr. Yasmine Fouad, and Dr. Mahmoud El-Metini, President of Ain Shams University, in partnership with the Ministry of Environment for a period of two weeks, as the program began last Friday, January 7, 2022

It is worth mentioning the participation of the Central Department of Climate at the Ministry of Environment in the training of climate ambassadors.

The first week of training program, which started last Friday, was a personal interview with the trainees conducted by the Dean of the Faculty of Graduate Studies and Environmental Research, Dr. Noha Samir Donia, and the head of the Million Youth Volunteer Initiative for Climate Adaptation, Dr. Mustafa El-Sherbiny, as it is a prerequisite for admission, inspiring and influential trainees are selected and have the ability to communicate in the community.

The training in the first week focused on the theoretical aspect, which included strong scientific content in the concept of climate, climate changes, new and renewable energy, sustainable cities, climatic geography, the impact of climate changes on public health, food and water shortages, agricultural crops, aquatic life, sustainable development, and the transition towards a green economy and climate information.

         
   
         

As for the next week, the study will be practical, in which the trainees will present research and studies on what they studied in the first week. These research will be discussed in practice through a scientific committee headed by the Dean of the Faculty of Graduate Studies and Environmental Research, and the best three research will be selected to be presented during the graduation ceremonial in the mid-year vacation.

This week, climate ambassadors will be trained on how to calculate the individual carbon footprint through a mobile application, share the carbon footprint with the global average, and take action by volunteers to reduce

The most important aspects of the practical training are the trainees’ visit to the Meteorological Authority to train them on how to forecast weather conditions using radar and predict the state of the climate until the end of the century on the interactive maps of the Meteorological Authority, as well as training in the Green Transformation Unit established by the Faculty of Graduate Studies and Environmental Research at Ain Shams University and how recycling contributes in preserving the environment.

Dr. Noha Samir Donia confirmed that the training focused on theoretical and applied aspects, as the first aspect included the theoretical framework, by giving a set of theoretical lectures, through which the climatic scientific approaches followed globally, and the types of studies in the field of climate change were highlighted, and she also said We are preparing young volunteers from climate ambassadors to contribute to climate awareness to rationalize energy and water and eradicate carbon illiteracy for individuals, especially that Egypt will organize COP27 next November and Britain has rehabilitated 10 thousand volunteer climate ambassadors before organizing COP26

Dr. Mustafa El-Sherbiny pointed out the interest in the practical aspects through designing practical training programs, especially for each training day and for each trainee separately, and that the total number of training hours has reached 30 hours over two weeks.

He explained that this is the leading training program in Africa and the Middle East, organized by Ain Shams University in cooperation with the Volunteer Team Foundation for Humanitarian Action, as part of the activities of the Million Youth Volunteer Initiative for Climate Adaptation. Young students from 6 Egyptian universities

Hossam El-Din Mahmoud, Secretary-General of the initiative, said that we will also launch a carbon literacy program in youth centers and schools soon to prepare the Young Climate Ambassador, and that these graduates of the program are the ones who carry out these trainings to target the training of one million young volunteers in climate action.
