Dr. Ali Hamdy Ali El-Naggar
Biography
Ali El-Naggar is currently a Visiting Professor at the University of Alberta, Edmonton, Alberta, Canada. He also holds a position as a Lecturer, Department of Soil Sciences, Faculty of Agriculture, Ain Shams University, Cairo, Egypt. He served as Elsevier Customer Ambassador| ELSEVIER – Africa in 2019. He obtained his Ph.D. from the Korea Biochar Research Center, Kangwon National University, South Korea, under the supervision of Prof. Yong Sik Ok between 2015 and 2018. He obtained an Outstanding Academic Award from the President of Kangwon National University as the best graduating student in 2018. He was a visiting researcher in the Division of Environmental Science and Ecological Engineering, Korea University, Seoul, Korea. He was also NRF-DAAD Fellow at Wuppertal University, Germany (11 months, multiple trips during 2016-2018) via the Germany-Korea Partnership Program (GEnKO Program). His academic background covers soil science, ecosystem restoration, environmental remediation, and biowaste conversion. His research focuses on the interactions among soil, plant roots, and eco-friendly soil amendments. The application of his research extends to soil carbon sequestration, climate change mitigation, improvement in soil fertility and productivity, and remediation of contaminated soils. He has experience in the application of biochar to soil via collaboration with leading scientists in the world. He is particularly interested in the application of optimized-designer biochars in restoring degraded soil physico-biochemical properties. Ali has published ~30 peer-reviewed research papers/chapters, with an H-index of 15 (Scopus), and 12 of them as a first author, and 8 of his papers are Web of Science ESI top papers (8 as “highly cited papers” and 1 as “hot paper”). In addition, he participated actively in international scientific meetings, published more than 20 conference abstracts, and has was awarded the best presentation awards three times. Ali served as a member of the organizing team for several international conferences in Egypt, Korea, and China and has been recently invited as an invited speaker and member of the international scientific committee of several conferences including the 5th and the 6th Asia Pacific Biochar Conference (2021 & 2022), and Pyro-Asia Conference 2022. Ali regularly serves as a reviewer for leading international journals in environmental and soil sciences (e.g., Critical Reviews in Environmental Science and Technology, Environmental Research, Environment International, Environmental Pollution, Bioresource Technology, Chemosphere). He was awarded a Certificate of Excellence in Reviewing (top 25 reviewers for the journal) from the Editor-in-Chief of “Journal of Soils and Sediments” and “Environmental Geochemistry and Health” in 2016, 2017 and 2018. He was also awarded the Outstanding Reviewer Certificate (top 10th percentile of reviewers) from “Science of the Total Environment” and “Environmental Pollution” in 2017.
