Prof. Fatma Abbas Hassaneen Fahmy


Biography


Prof. Dr. Fatma Abbas Hassaneen Fahmy is an Egyptian Professor of Agricultural Economics at the Faculty of Agriculture, Ain Shams University. She specializes in agricultural production and marketing economics and has devoted her academic and professional career to research, teaching, and rural development in Egypt and the Arab region. Dr. Fatma Fahmy obtained her Bachelor of Science in Agricultural Economics from the Faculty of Agriculture, Ain Shams University in 1971. She later earned her Master’s degree in Agricultural Economics in 1976 with a thesis entitled “The Economics of Grain Storage in Egypt.” In the same year, she completed her PhD in Agricultural Sciences with a dissertation titled “An Econometric Model of Tomato Economics in Egypt.” Her academic career began as a Demonstrator in the Department of Agricultural Economics at Ain Shams University in 1971. She progressed through the academic ranks to become Assistant Lecturer, Lecturer, Assistant Professor, and finally Professor in 1999. She also served as Chairperson of the Department of Agricultural Economics and later became Professor Emeritus at the Faculty of Agriculture. Throughout her career, Dr. Fatma Fahmy has taught undergraduate and postgraduate courses in economic theory, agricultural economics, agricultural marketing, production economics, rural sociology, statistics, project evaluation, and research methods. She also lectured at colleges in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, during the period from 1987 to 1992. Dr. Fatma Fahmy has participated in numerous national and international research projects related to agricultural development, marketing systems, rural development, food security, agricultural exports, and economic reform policies. She represented Ain Shams University in scientific cooperation programs with international institutions, including research collaborations with the United States Department of Agriculture and the University of Delaware. Her scholarly contributions include more than sixty published research papers in leading journals and conferences covering topics such as agricultural exports, wheat economics, food security, poverty indicators, agricultural investments, environmental impacts on agriculture, and econometric modeling of agricultural markets. In addition to her teaching and research activities, Dr. Fatma Fahmy supervised dozens of Master’s and PhD theses in Agricultural Economics and Environmental Studies. She is also an active member of several scientific associations, including the Egyptian Association of Agricultural Economics and the Academy of Scientific Research and Technology in Egypt.
