Dental Convoys

One of the Faculty of Dentistry, Ain Shams University prime goals is to serve the underprivileged areas across Egypt. Our periodic Dental convoys serve as a vital bridge in the healthcare system, providing essential oral care to underserved populations who face significant barriers such as poverty, lack of insurance, or geographic isolation. Their primary purpose is to deliver preventative and restorative treatments—ranging from cleanings and fluoride applications to extractions and fillings—directly to the communities that need them most.

Beyond immediate clinical intervention, these convoys play a critical role in public health education, teaching sustainable hygiene habits to reduce the long-term prevalence of systemic diseases linked to poor oral health. By mobilizing specialized equipment and volunteer expertise, dental convoys act as a mobile safety net, alleviating the burden on overstretched public hospitals and restoring the dignity and quality of life that comes with a healthy, pain-free smile.

Scientific Days

At the Faculty of Dentistry, Ain Shams University, we offer a variety of Scientific days over the academic years. We have a strong belief that scientific days serve as a vital catalyst for academic excellence, bridging the gap between theoretical classroom learning and the rapidly evolving reality of modern clinical practice.

By hosting these events, institutions create a high-energy forum where students and faculty engage with cutting-edge research, innovative technologies, and evidence-based methodologies that may not yet be integrated into the standard curriculum.

These days are instrumental in fostering a culture of inquiry; they encourage students to move beyond rote memorization and develop the critical thinking skills necessary to evaluate new dental materials and surgical techniques. Furthermore, scientific days provide essential networking opportunities, connecting aspiring dentists with industry experts and seasoned specialists, thereby broadening their professional horizons and inspiring a commitment to lifelong learning that is crucial for maintaining competency in the dental profession

Infection Control Unit

The Infection Control Unit (ICU) at the Faculty of Dentistry, Ain Shams University acts as the frontline defense against cross-contamination, ensuring the safety of students, faculty, and patients alike.

Its primary roles involve:

●Standard Protocol Development: Establishing and updating rigorous Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) based on global health guidelines (like the CDC or WHO) for every clinic within the Faculty.

●Sterilization Oversight: Managing the Central Sterilization Unit to ensure all handpieces and instruments are cleaned, packaged, and autoclaved with verified biological and chemical indicators.

●Compliance Monitoring: Conducting regular, unannounced audits of student clinics to ensure proper use of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE), such as masks, face shields, and gloves.

●Waste Management: Overseeing the safe segregation and disposal of biohazardous waste, including sharps (needles/blades) and mercury-containing amalgam scraps, to prevent environmental contamination.

●Waterline Maintenance: Implementing regular shock treatments and testing of dental unit waterlines to prevent the buildup of biofilms and Legionella bacteria.

●Vaccination and Health Tracking: Maintaining records of student and staff immunizations (specifically Hepatitis B) and managing the immediate response protocol for accidental needle-stick injuries.

● Continuous Education: Organizing mandatory training sessions on Hand Hygiene, surface disinfection, and the latest sterilization technologies to maintain a high "safety culture" across the campus.
