Dr. Ali Soliman Ali Shalash
Biography
Ali Shalash is the professor of neurology, Ain Shams University, Cairo, Egypt. He is the chair of Ain Shams Movement Disorders, Chair of Movement Disorders Society -African Section (MDS AS) Education Committee, member of MDS AS Executive committee, and vice chair of MD chapter of Egyptian Society of Neurology. Also, he is a member of the MDS Telemedicine group, MDS group of PD genetics, and MDS pediatric movement disorders group, and participated in MDS strategic plan meeting in Amsterdam 2022. Ali Shalash graduated from faculty of medicine, Ain Shams University, Cairo, Egypt in 1998, completed his PhD in 2007, and his professorship of neurology in 2017. Ali participated in training programs in Christian-Albrechts University, Kiel, Germany 2012 and University college of London, UK, 2014. Ali is the founder of the first movement disorders (MDs) clinic at his institute. He leads deep brain stimulation (DBS) group in his institute and promoted its wide use and adoption in Egypt. Ali has published several papers in high impact journals in the field of Parkinson’s disease and other movement disorders. He is a reviewer in several journals and awarded several national awards for his scientific research. Areas of interest include PD, dystonia, pediatric movement disorders, DBS, and neurocognition. Recently, Ali led collaborative research activity of 28 African countries in the field of MDs in Africa, with publishing 1st article in MDJ. Also, he presented Africa as one of experts panel for WHO technical brief report of PD 2021-2022. Ali organized the 1st MDS School for Young Neurologists in Africa (Cairo) and other several national and international, live and online educational activities in the field of movement disorders. He is the founder and director of African MDs Grand Round (multicenter webinar series) and the interactive online basic MD course.
