Dr. Tamer Roushdy, MD, Ph.D. Associate Professor of Neurology at the Faculty of Medicine, Ain Shams University, Egypt. Co-director of Ain Shams University Stroke Center - Hany Aref Unit (ASUSC). Member of the World Stroke Organization (WSO), European Stroke Organization (ESO), European Academy of Neurology (EAN), head of the International Relations Office and Chair of the Research Committee of the Middle East and North Africa Vascular and Interventional Neurology Society (MENA-VINS), Advisory board of Middle East and North Africa Stroke Organization (MENASO), local coordinator of Ain Shams University hospitals Safe Implementation for treatments of stroke (SITS) & Stroke Quality Registry (RESQ) sites, Alumni of World Stroke Organization Future Leaders Program (WSO-FSL). Graduated from the School of Medicine in 2006 and since then have joined the Neurology department and was promoted within the department from resident to Assistant Lecturer in 2010, then to Lecturer in 2015, and Associate Professor in 2021. His PhD was discussing the role of Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation (TMS) in post-stroke aphasia. Since 2015, his scientific research has focused on stroke, vascular neurology, and fields related to cognitive disorders in neurology. having 59 publications on Scopus since 2017, “Scopus Author identifier 57199153699”. Participated in achieving LGA accreditation for the stroke units of Ain Shams University Hospital and Ain Shams University Specialized Hospital, and was responsible for preparing the entire filing for this accreditation process. Was responsible for the training of residents to apply the National Institutes of Health Stroke Scale (NIHSS) for stroke cases in the ER and was on-call with them in decisions regarding thrombolysis administration 24/7 since its endorsement by the Ministry of Health after a campaign that was led by Ain Shams Neurology department and glad that one of his co-authored publications was used to persuade the ministry of health to endorse such treatment which was published in the International Journal of Stroke under the title “Egyptian experience in increasing utilization of reperfusion therapies in acute ischemic stroke”. Led two studies assessing stroke service availability in Africa that were published in the International Journal of Stroke and Journal of Neurological Sciences, with extensive citations. Despite the effect of the COVID-19 pandemic, learned much in dealing with stroke and Covid and have published more than 7 publications in this special field including a modified pathway for acute stroke management to achieve protection for doctors who are providing stroke services and avoiding any delay for patients in receiving their thrombolysis/thrombectomy therapies that was published in the Journal of Stroke, and received a certificate from the faculty of Medicine for his efforts in the neurology department during the pandemic era. Continuously provides virtual training programs and teaching courses through the WSO-FSL, as well as through cooperation with colleagues from sub-Saharan Africa, where he participated in different courses covering stroke management to colleagues in Somalia, Tanzania, and Kenya. Regularly, with the support of the Angels initiative, trains different members of stroke units in Egypt, Jordan, Iraq, and Libya on stroke management. From January 2021 to December 2023, he was the manager of the stroke unit at Ain Shams University Specialized Hospital.
