The Egyptian National Commission for UNESCO announces the UNESCO-Russia Mendeleev International Prize

Dr. Khaled Abdel Ghaffar, Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research, and Chairman of the Egyptian National Commission for UNESCO, reviewed a report submitted by Dr. Ghada Abdel Bari, Secretary-General of the National Committee, regarding opening the door for candidacy for the (UNESCO-Russia Mendeleev International Prize) in Basic Sciences for the year 2022.

The report added that the award aims to reward major achievements in research, education and international cooperation in basic sciences in the following disciplines (chemistry - physics - mathematics - biology) for sustainable development. They are fundamental to advancing innovation.

The report indicated that the award is awarded annually to two winners, for their distinguished discoveries and innovations in basic sciences of global or regional impact, and the value of the award is 500 thousand dollars (five hundred thousand dollars) awarded 250 thousand dollars (two hundred and fifty thousand dollars) to each winner with a gold medal and a diploma for each who are they.

The report clarified that the conditions for obtaining this award are to present outstanding scientific achievements that lead to an economic and social transformation affecting regional and global development, according to the following rules:

Teaching and simplifying basic sciences to the general public.

Excellence in research in the areas covered by the basic sciences.

International or regional cooperation in basic sciences.

The candidate's outstanding contributions or achievements to research and innovation in the field of basic sciences, which are manifested in the publication and education of basic sciences and their dissemination.

The award is not given to a person more than once.

There is no specific age to apply for the award.

The report pointed out that the documents required of the candidate to apply for this award are to submit the complete nomination file in English or French, and it includes the following documents:

● The candidate writes, in no more than (500 words), a definition of the extent of his contribution to achieving the objectives of the award

● Curriculum Vitae (2-3 pages), the applicant must include a curriculum vitae or a list of publications.

● The top 20 publications in the journals occupying the first and second quartiles should be listed in order of importance, with a summary of their importance and reasons for their feasibility, according to the applicant, in no more than (50 words).

● List of the most important patents starting with the most recent, max. (2 pages)

● Three letters of recommendation from eminent scholars from outside the candidate's parent institution.

■ The candidate must identify the impact of his major technical or professional achievements and the results of his work on the following:

Society - International Scientific Cooperation - The 2030 Sustainable Development Plan and its goals for sustainable development, with no more than (2000 words)

A clear and specific description of the candidate's achievements and work results that make the candidate eligible for the award in no more than (10 words)

A letter of nomination from the entity he works for, addressed to the Egyptian National Commission for UNESCO, and it is not permissible to apply alone.
