Isolation and Characterization of STEM CELLs from Various Sources

  • Outline:
  • This workshop will introduce participants to the fascinating world of stem cell biology. You will be provided with the required technique to isolate and characterize stem cells from human Wharton’s jelly and rat adipose tissue. This will open doors for you to start your stem cell research in various diseases, and regenerative medicine as well as different avenues of stem cell research and applications.

  • The workshop will cover basic concepts and practical methodology in stem cell biology including:

    • (a) Different types of stem cells, embryonic stem cells, mesenchymal stem cells, induced pluripotent stem cells, and cancer stem cells.
    • (b) Isolation and characterization principles of stem cells
    • (c) Isolation and culture of adipose tissue-derived mesenchymal stem cells (from rat epidydimal fat pads) – Practical aspects (JOVE video paper)
    • (d) Isolation and culture of Wharton’s jelly mesenchymal stem cells (from the human umbilical cord) – Practical aspects (video illustrations)
    • (e) Application and research avenues of stem cells and regenerative medicine.
    •
  • If you are interested in learning more about active stem cell research and gaining hands-on instruction on isolating and culturing different types of stem cells, this workshop is for you.
