Launching the "Don't be break & Don’t be Refract" campaign to raise awareness of osteoporosis at the Faculty of Law

Under the patronage of Prof. Dr. Mahmoud El-Metini, President of Ain Shams University, Prof. Dr. Hesham Tamraz, Vice President for Community Service and Environmental Development, and Prof. Dr. Mohamed Safi, Dean of the Faculty of Law, the Community Service and Environmental Development Sector at Ain Shams University, in cooperation with the Faculty of Law, organized an awareness campaign on osteoporosis Under the title "Unbreakable & Unbreakable" today, Monday, June 27, at the Faculty of Law.

The campaign was coordinated by Prof. Gehan Ragab, Advisor to the Vice President for Community Service and Environmental Development, Prof. Dr. Yassin El-Shazly, Vice Dean of the Faculty of Law for Community Service and Environmental Development, and Mr. Suhail Hamza, Assistant Secretary of the University for Community Service and Environmental Development.

The events were also witnessed by Prof. Dr. Muhammad Al-Shafei, Vice Dean of the Faculty of Law for Education and Student Affairs, Prof. Dr. El-Sayed Eid Nayel, former Dean of the Faculty of Law, Prof. Dr. Mustafa El-Gawhari, Head of the Criminal Law Department at the Faculty of Law, and Dr. Omar Ramadan, Director of the Literacy Unit at the Faculty of Law.

         
   
         

During the campaign, the percentage of osteoporosis was measured for all those who attended the awareness campaign through a specialized device from Amgen, under the supervision of Prof. Dr. Mona Al-Sibai, Head of the Department of Physical Medicine, Rehabilitation and Rheumatology at the University's College of Medicine.

Prof. Mona Al-Sibai also gave an awareness lecture, during which she reviewed the definition of osteoporosis, noting that it is a silent disease that arises without pain and the first symptom is a bone fracture, so it is necessary to build bones during youth and work to preserve them throughout life.

She also explained how osteoporosis occurs, noting that the most vulnerable places for fractures are the wrist, thigh bone and spine, pointing out that there are two types of the disease, a primary type as a result of old age and a secondary type as a result of diseases such as the thyroid gland, diabetes, liver, kidney, as well as the use of some medications such as cortisone and other medications. epilepsy;

It also touched on the factors that cause osteoporosis or increase the development of the disease, including lack of exercise, smoking, alcohol consumption, calcium deficiency, genetic factors, weight loss, and lack of exposure to the sun.

Also Prof. Dr. Mona Al Sibai's explained the diagnosis methods include patient history, x-rays, bone density testing, laboratory tests, and biopsy.

         
   
         

She also addressed methods of treating the disease, stressing that prevention is better than cure.

She advised patients to exercise and increase physical activity, especially resistance exercises such as carrying weights, and weight-bearing exercises such as jogging, publishing, climbing stairs, and playing football.

In addition, she also addressed the role of vitamin D in this disease, noting that the best source of it is exposure to the sun at 12 noon, provided that exposure is direct and not behind the glass for 20 minutes, and some nutrients are rich in this vitamin.

At the end of the lecture, questions were opened to the audience and all their questions were answered.
