Respect for the law and free media are the main pillars of democratic countries to achieve each of strengthening the principle of respect for human rights and ensure that he receives full rights. On the basis of this concept and belief in the role of law students in the establishment of justice, equality and freedom of opinion between people, the Faculty of Law at Ain Shams University worked to participate for the first time in international competition for the moot court in the field of media law which was organized in English and was launched on Monday, February 11, 2013 at Gezira Media training and Development center for the State of Qatar.

The team of Ain ​​Shams University consisted of six students from the Faculty of Law - English Division are Rami Mohammed Tawfiq Hatata, Abanoub Edward Labib, Mamdouh Ahmed Ahmed Anbr, Merihan Hisham Ahmed Adel, Naira Abdel Tawab Ibrahim and Amina Ashraf Mohamed Kamal. The training and preparation of all students has supervised by Dr. Yassin Mohamed Tharwat El-Shazly, a teacher of Commercial Law, Ain Shams University, and Dr. Ahmed Fathi Khalifa, a teacher of criminal law at Ain ​​Shams University.

Faculty of Law, Ain Shams University got its first participation in the first place and in the light of this, the faculty of law at Ain ​​Shams qualified to move to the final stage of the competition in the world at the University of Oxford in the UK next April. This university was the first in Egypt to a check this achievement.

Team of Faculty of Law Ain Shams received the award for best memorandum to the defendant and the defense by the student: Naira and the student Ibrahim Abdel Tawab the award for best defense in the final match, which held in front of the University of Qatar.

Participated in the contest arbitration different judges, international law experts and academics while competing six Arab universities: the Faculty of Law of Qatar, Ain Shams University and the University of Mansoura Egypt, University of Baghdad, Iraq, UAE University and the University of Jordan, Jordan. This contest was held , organized and supervision of the University of Oxford, the University of Pennsylvania in collaboration with the University of Qatar and Al Jazeera Media Center for Training.


The objectives of the competition are educational, scientific and practical

The competition is the first of its kind in the Middle East and designed to teach students the methods of legal arguments and equip them with practical experience and scientific allows them to apply the theoretical concepts on the ground. In addition, it allows students and faculty members to activate communication with law schools in various Arab countries and the world in order to open the way for students to share their experiences and perspectives in different legal especially with regard to international law and the law of each state. the contest open up new vistas for students through communication with the jury , which includes international experts in the legal field , it is expected that students are gaining good experience to pave the road in front of them to their careers after graduation.

This competition acquires greater attention to the theme of a distinguished media law and rising importance and especially within developments and recent changes in the Arab world.

As this event has another importance where it is sponsored by the Al-Jazeera network, a leading institution in the Arab media, which constitutes a benefit for students participating in this competition.

In addition, there are distinguished jurists at the Arab and international judges participate in this contest to hear the discussion and judgment on the pleadings of students.

As for the steps to prepare for the contest, six months ago, has received all the teams participating in the competition one issue on relevant topics to what is happening in the Arab world at the moment, such as media law and freedom of opinion and expression, human rights and government control and privacy protection.

The university team divided- as is the case with the rest of the teams, into the team plaintiff and another defendant, and each team has extensive research work that supports his views and refute the opinion of the other party.

The panel of arbitrators of high-level, which includes the 7 rulers, headed by Lord Phillips, former judge of High British Court who choose the Faculty of Law at Ain Shams University unanimously as the winner team and in the final round, which was held between Ain Shams University and the University of Qatar, which was held on Thursday, February 31, 2013 at the Center Al Jazeera Media Training and was broadcast live on Al Jazeera directly
